The Possibility of Belief, The Way Back to Hope considers whether Christian belief is possible on any reasonable basis
Christian belief is contrasted with the predominant secularism of Western culture. This book argues that Christian belief should take account of all the evidence available to us because hope should not be based on wishful thinking. No-one should be expected to just believe against the evidence, a so-called leap of faith
The book has three parts:
What must we explain?
Is evolution the answer?
Where can we find answers?
Through a series of short discussions, key questions are addressed such as:
Is Random Chance or Design the more convincing explanation for the ultimate origin of everything that exists?
And
Why do we have a moral sense?
Belief is shown to be more than claims about what constitutes the right answers to some of our most fundamental questions. Belief is found to be a lived experience that can be built on a solid evidential basis
The reader is challenged to follow the evidence wherever it leads, and The Possibility of Belief argues that the evidence leads to hope, because it leads to belief in God reaching into in our broken, confusing, yet still beautiful world
Every person’s journey through life is different, but we all owe it to ourselves to face up to reality as it presents itself
